Conservation is at the very heart of everything we do at Fold House, ensuring the park and surrounding environment work hand-in-hand to benefit nature. The Carter family have worked generation after generation as caretakers of the land, managing it in such a way that has led to Fold House being an unparalleled haven for wildlife that most nature reserves could only dream about. This means that whilst you're enjoying your time here you will spot a vast array of wildlife, including some incredibly rare birds, such as; Golden Pheasants, lesser and great spotted Woodpeckers, Willow Tit, Spotted Flycatchers and Curlew. As well as many rare birds, our habitat management means more common birds such as Swifts, Swallows, Blue Tits, Finch and Robins, and birds of prey such as Owls, Sparrow Hawk and Buzzards all thrive and are seen in huge numbers. We have one family of over 100 Goldfinch that can be seen feeding by the lakes. Simply walking round the park you can't help but notice the sheer amount of birds singing away in the woodland and miles of native hedgerows, many of which are over 200 years old.
This doesn't happen by accident and it is testament to the hard work that successive generations have put in to ensure that Fold House is a place of outstanding natural beauty. We continue to be a traditional working, sustainable farm where you will find peace and tranquillity, as the fishing lakes blend seamlessly into stunning wildflower meadows as far as the eye can see. These are conservation-grazed by our herd of pedigree Hebridean sheep; remember to keep a look out for little lambs bouncing in the fields in Spring.
We are constantly working to maintain and improve our environment through specialist ecological projects that not only greatly benefit nature but also help us to be a Carbon Neutral company, with our continued aim to be Carbon Negative. This ensures we are not just doing our bit to tackle climate change, but that we are setting benchmarks for others to strive for.
We have been repeatedly recognised for our unwavering dedication to conservation, having won numerous awards from RHS Britain in Bloom including 9 Gold Medals and several special discretionary awards, such as; The Mayor of Preston Biodiversity Trophy, RHS BiB award for Biodiversity and the Sustainable Gardening award. One of the Carter family was also awarded the RHS BiB award for Outstanding Contribution for all the environmental work carried out. We are also the proud winners of the Wyre Business Award for Climate Action.
